Originating Depository Financial Institution (ODFI): The financial institution with which the Originator (company) has a contractual relationship for ACH services and is responsible for sending ACH entries int the ACH Network on behalf of the Originator. Out-of-Band Authentication: A type of authentication which includes any technique that allows the identity of the individual originating a transaction to be verified through a Channel different from the one the user employed to initiate the transaction. Participant- aka Receiver/Recipient: Either an individual or a company that has authorized the Originator (company) to credit or debit their account. Prenotification (Prenote): An optional, non-monetary entry that is sent through the ACH Network by an Originator to a RDFI to verify account information. This “test” entry is sent prior to the live entry. Positive Pay (Checks): Allows users to monitor checks clearing their accounts to prevent check fraud. The system compares an issued check file (uploaded by users) with the processed check file and notifies the user and financial institution of any exceptions that need to be handled. (Guide available on request) Receiver: aka Participant/Recipient- Either an individual or a company that has authorized the Originator (company) to credit or debit their account. Receiving Depository Financial Institution (RDFI): The financial institution with which the Receiver has an account relationship. Credit or debit entries sent to a Receiver’s account will be received by the RDFI from the ACH Operator and then posted to the Receiver’s account. Remote Deposit Capture (RDC): offers quick and convenient check processing right from your office. All you need is a check scanner and a secure internet connection. You can scan your checks from multiple locations and transmit them securely to the bank for posting to your account. (Guide available on request) Routing Number: The Routing and Transit number (sometimes called the ABA number) of the receiving financial institution. This can be found on a check drawn on the account to receive or to be debited for the transaction amount. On personal checks, it is the left-most nine digits on the bottom of the check. On commercial checks, it sometimes appears after the check number.
